Brewer’s Update: Welcome Back Winter!

After several very nice days last week I was getting spoiled by the daytime highs being above the freezing mark and a lot of our snow started to disappear.  That all changed on Tuesday when we saw about 9″ of snow on top of some pretty slick streets at the brewery.

For the safety of our employees we chose to move Trivia Tuesday to Thursday along with our cask/infusion night.  I know at least a few people tried to stop on Tuesday evening due to tracks in the parking lot when I left for the night – I apologize for the inconvenience.

Even though the weather kept everyone else away, I was able to make it over to the brewery on Tuesday to start conditioning the new batch of Browncoat.  That beer should be ready to serve as early as the end of this week.  The Altbier was brewed this past Saturday as well, and that one should be back on tap within the next couple weeks.

As a reminder, Jeff, Brett, Ted and I are pouring beer at the Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds this Saturday.  If you’re going to that event, stop by our booth and say hi!

You’ve probably heard me mention this before at least once, but one of the reasons I wanted to start a brewery and have a taproom was to help promote the making of better beer.  That guiding principle, along with my hatred for social media “critic” apps like Untappd, has led me to produce a new recurring column called “Style Profile” in our weekly newsletter.

The purpose of this column is to help educate consumers and fellow brewers about beer styles.  I will relate the content to beers we have brewed at LTS, but the content should serve to educate readers on the style in general, not just our particular example.

In case you’re wondering why I hate apps like Untappd and haven’t heard my rant on the subject before – ask me the next time you’re in the taproom and I’ll share it with you over a beer.  You might want to watch the South Park episode on Yelp to prepare.

As always, any feedback, corrections, questions, or clarifications are appreciated.
